Training Spotlight: LP Electrical & Construction

On 28th March 2025, PRAC had the pleasure of conducting a Working at Height Awareness for Scaffolder Users training course for team members from LP Electrical & Construction Sdn. Bhd. This program was developed based on the specific requirements set by Chevron, and is aligned with the regulations and safety expectations of DOSH Malaysia. The training focused on raising awareness of safe practices when working at height, particularly in scaffold-related operations. Held at the PRAC Training Centre, the course was facilitated by experienced instructors using certified, industry-standard equipment to ensure a safe and effective learning experience. This training engagement reflects LP Electrical & Construction’s strong commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement—values that PRAC fully supports. We applaud their proactive approach and look forward to continuing our efforts in building safer, more skilled workforces.

Throughout the session, participants from LP Electrical & Construction Sdn. Bhd. were actively engaged in practical exercises—ranging from full-body harness inspections to vertical movement techniques on fixed systems. The PRAC trainers ensured that every participant had hands-on experience with fall arrest setups, anchor systems, and work at height procedures. These activities were designed to simulate real-world work-at-height conditions, reinforcing not just skills, but also confidence in safe work practices. The training was thoughtfully tailored to suit the company’s operational needs—ensuring essential safety learning was delivered effectively, without compromising on quality or compliance with safety standards.

On 7th March 2025, participants engaged in an in-depth PPE Inspection training course that focused on hands-on learning and real-world application. The session emphasized proper inspection techniques for a variety of personal protective equipment, including carabiners and other metal components. Throughout the training, participants were exposed to multiple brands and types of PPEs—learning how to identify signs of wear, assess functionality,

and perform basic maintenance to extend equipment lifespan. The program also guided them on effective documentation practices, ensuring traceability and compliance with inspection protocols. The course further reinforced the importance of inspection intervals, proper storage, and legal responsibilities tied to PPE care. Trainers highlighted real-case scenarios of inspection failures, helping participants connect the dots between inspection diligence and accident prevention. By the end of the session, each participant not only gained technical confidence in PPE assessment but also developed a sharper understanding of safety ownership—equipping them to uphold safer standards in their daily operations.

A core part of the training focused on vertical movement, where PRAC’s trainer introduced the Three-Point Contact climbing technique. This method emphasizes maintaining balance and stability by ensuring three points of contact—two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand—at all times while climbing. Participants also learned the proper use of the Y-lanyard for fall arrest, practicing how to alternate connections during ascent and descent without compromising safety. This hands-on approach helped reinforce the importance of staying secured throughout the climb. To complete the module, trainees were guided on the application of the Work Positioning Lanyard, which allows for safe and stable positioning while working at height. These practical exercises prepared participants to perform elevated tasks with greater awareness, confidence, and control.

Under Section 15 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514), every employer has a general duty to ensure, so far as is practicable, the safety, health, and welfare of all employees at work. This includes:

• Providing a safe working environment
• Ensuring safe systems of work
• Offering proper training, supervision, and equipment

Non-compliance can lead to enforcement actions, including fines or imprisonment, making occupational safety not just a priority—but a legal obligation.

17-20 March 2025 — PRAC conducted a comprehensive Rope Access training course focused on safe and effective work at height using rope access systems. The session welcomed participants from Wookkei Sdn. Bhd., Allied Engineering Construction Sdn. Bhd., UCM Construction Sdn. Bhd., along with two independent individuals, each committed to advancing their technical capabilities in high-angle operations. The four-day course delivered intensive, hands-on training covering core rope access skills such as proper harness use, safe ascent and descent techniques, anchor system setups, and rescue procedures. All modules were aligned with current rope access safety standards, ensuring participants gained real-world readiness for working in elevated or difficult-to-reach environments. Through practical simulations and guided assessments, participants demonstrated competency in maneuvering and performing tasks while suspended at height—reflecting not only physical skill but also a strong grasp of hazard awareness, equipment handling, and teamwork. This training plays a vital role in preparing technicians for industries such as construction, inspection, maintenance, and façade work where rope access is both efficient and essential. With a growing demand for safe, skilled rope access professionals, this program continues to support the industry’s need for qualified personnel—equipped not only to meet project demands but to uphold the highest standards of safety and professionalism on every rope line.
